Course I: What Parents Can Do…

Parents are people who put their children first.

Parents always worry about their kids.  It’s what we do.  From the time they are born, we want to protect them from harm, nurture them, and guide them.  We want them to be happy, confident, popular, and accomplished. When they are small, we chauffeur them anywhere they need to go.  When they begin to drive, we pray they will buckle up, stay off their phones, and come home safe.

Even when we get angry and fight with them, even when  they say, “I hate you,” we love them.  We try to be good  role models and give our kids good values.  Whatever their hobbies or talents are, we support and encourage them.  We want to help them in any and every way we can, so they can live their happily ever after.

There is no one who can make us feel inept and out of touch, no one whose admiration and respect we cherish more, and no one we love so unconditionally.  Being a parent comes with stressors. And COVID-19 and its aftermath have magnified and multiplied them.

This course is designed to help you manage and succeed after COVID-19 and beyond.

Course I: What parents can do is put themselves first (sometimes).

In order to be the most help and the best support for your children, the first thing parents can do is to take care of themselves. This is not a selfish act. It is giving yourself permission to relax, reflect, get in touch with yourself, and regroup.

Your personal time is the deep breath - between the roller coaster highs and lows of the day - that restores balance, care, and surety to your mind, body, and spirit. It is time you deserve. It is time that you need. You will be happier and a better parent for it.

Ten things parents can do for themselves that will also benefit their kids and family.

During this course, we will discuss ten things you can do to take care of yourself. We will talk about how you can find time and a positive mind set. We will share experiences, nod our heads in understanding, shed a few tears, and have some good laughs, too. We will help each other by having a conversation about how and why taking care of yourself is as good for your kids and family as it is for you.

I look forward to being with you on Zoom and, when safe, in person, to listen to your stories, tell you mine, talk straight talk, answer your , questions, and offer some practical ideas.
